Error code: 0x800704f8, What is this error. How to solve this error?
This error message indicates that you are experiencing a security policy restriction when you try to access a shared folder because unauthenticated guest access is blocked. Here are some possible workarounds:
1. Make sure that your computer and the target computer are on the same network and can access each other.
2. In the Control Panel, go to Network and Sharing Center. Click on “Change advanced sharing settings”. Make sure that the “Enable File and Printer Sharing” option is checked.
3. Press the Win + R keys, type secpol.msc, and press Enter.
In Local Security Policies, navigate to Local Policies > Security Options.
Locate Network Access: Sharing and Security Model for Local Accounts and set it to Guest Only or Classic.
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
4. In the Network and Sharing Center, find Change advanced sharing settings.
In the “All networks” section, find “Password protected sharing” and set it to “Off”.
5. Make sure that Windows Firewall or any third-party firewall isn’t blocking file sharing.
You can temporarily disable the firewall to test if the firewall is causing the problem.
6. Make sure you’re using the correct username and password to access the shared folder.
If you have a user account on the target computer, use the credentials for that account to access it.
7. Make sure that the shared folder on the target computer is set with the correct sharing and security permissions.
How do I enable SMB signing in Synology?
For DSM 7.0 and above:
- Go to Control Panel > File Services > SMB and click Advanced Settings.
- Select Force from the Enable server signing drop-down menu to enable it, or select Disable to disable it, and click Save.
Notes:
- If you have no domain environment, you can configure SMB signing by temporarily ticking Join domain to access the Domain Options button. You can untick Join domain once the setup is complete.
- Enabling server signing greatly reduces file transfer performance. Refer to this article for more information.
- If you wish to disable server signing, you should disable it on both your Synology NAS and the connected computer. Refer to this article for more information.
